A Hardin County facility that provides long-term care for military veterans is getting a special dedication Thursday.
A section of the Carl M. Brashear Radcliff Veterans Center will feature two brick walls, one of which will have the etching “Once a veteran, always a veteran.”
The other will say, “Together we serve.”
The new section will also include the silhouettes of a male and female soldier saluting, along with a solider returning from deployment being greeted by his family.
Clint Meshew is a Vietnam War veteran and co-chairman of the tribute.
He and a fellow retired Army veteran led the effort to raise $125,000 for the dedication.
Meshew says he remembers a 5-year-old boy giving part of his allowance to the effort.
(“When that little boy dropped that 2 dollars in our jug, I told Walter Reed—the guy who was with me—I said, ‘We’re gonna make it, no problem.’”)
Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Heather French Henry will sing the national anthem at the tribute.
The event begins at 2:30pm Thursday, and is open to the public.
