A pharmacy in Nelson County is scheduling COVID-19 vaccinations from a waiting list of more than 2,000 people.

Crume Drug Store in Bardstown has about 500 doses of the Moderna vaccine that arrived two weeks ago.

Ashley Coomes, co-owner of the drug store and a pharmacy technician, said there's a been a good response from the community for the vaccine.

“We were probably one of the only people in town that actually had a list of names going. And we probably had like 2,500 names," said Coomes. "So we’re calling down through the people that have had their names on the list and letting them know that it’s here and we can schedule an appointment for them and get everybody vaccinated, as many as we can.”

Coomes said the supply for second doses of the Moderna vaccine, which is required for full immunity, is expected to arrive shortly.

The pharmacy is also helping get Kentuckians vaccinated against COVID-19 by offering the vaccine to employees while they’re at work.

"The governor basically just told us in a meeting that we had, ‘You just need to be creative.’ So I just started calling some of the local distilleries around here and some local factories and they’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, that would be wonderful if you could come out'," said Coomes. "A lot of them had a good number of people signed up for us to come out and do it. That starts this week, Thursday and Friday."

Employees at three companies are lined up to get shots this week and two businesses are scheduled for next week.
