NPR and Member stations in Appalachia and the Mid-South have launched a collaboration aimed at strengthening local news coverage and bringing more stories from this region to the rest of the country. The new Appalachia + Mid-South Newsroom is a collaboration between West Virginia Public Broadcasting, WPLN and WUOT in Tennessee, LPM, WEKU, WKMS and WKU Public Radio in Kentucky.

“Aged in Kentucky” is a series of stories about people and places that have been in the Bluegrass State a few years or many decades. Each one has a unique spirit.Paul Quenon is a Trappist monk, photographer and poet who arrived at the Abbey of Gethsemani in 1958 at the age of 17. He immerses himself in the elements of nature that emerge throughout his writings.

Christina Cala is a producer for Code Switch. Before that, she was at the TED Radio Hour where she piloted two new episode formats — the curator chat and the long interview. She's also reported on a movement to preserve African American cultural sites in Birmingham and followed youth climate activists in New York City.
