The American Red Cross shelter that was temporarily set up at South Warren Middle and High Schools in Bowling Green has relocated.
The Red Cross on Sunday moved its shelter, supplies, and resources to Jennings Creek Elementary School. On Saturday, the first night following the deadly tornadoes, more than 70 people took shelter with the Red Cross at the South Warren schools.
Jennifer Capps, executive director of the American Red Cross of South Central Kentucky, said the community has done a great job donating supplies, and now they’re focused on raising money.
“Because we’ve got to begin a recovery process. We’re going to work with them to make sure they have a safe place to go,” Capps said. “Maybe it’s as simple as a tarp and they just need electricity.”
Capps added that people displaced by the tornado damage will need help for a long time to come. “Some are going to have to find new places to rent, new places to live and we’ll work with them and walk with them through that process.”
In the meantime, Capps said anyone needing a warm place to sleep is welcome to come to Jennings Creek, especially those who lost power.
