Legislator Wants to Lift Kentucky's Election Day Alcohol Law

A Northern Kentucky lawmaker will again try to reverse a ban on alcohol sales on election days. Democratic Representative Arnold Simpson will present his proposal to an interim legislative committee Friday.

Simpson has introduced the idea four different times, and each attempt has failed.

South Carolina is the only other state that still bans alcohol on election days. Such bans were once common as states tried to crack down on voter fraud.

Simpson argues that exchanging beer or alcohol for votes isn’t a problem anymore.
