A new report ranks Kentucky in the top 20 for states with the most underprivileged children.
The commonwealth has the highest percentage of maltreated children, with Indiana ranked second in that category.
Overall, the Hoosier state is ranked ninth for states with the most underprivileged children, and Tennessee is 20th.
Kentucky has the 7th highest rate of children living in households with a below-poverty level income.
WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 26 measures of neediness. The data set ranges from share of children in households with below-poverty income to a child’s food-insecurity rate. The financial blog used information from the U.S. Census Bureau, Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative, Annie E. Casey Foundation and others.
The report also found the U.S. has the seventh-highest rate of child poverty among economically developed countries.
