Forum in Pulaski County Offers Chance to Learn about Kentucky's Insurance Exchange

The next public forum over Kentucky's upcoming health insurance exchange is being held Wednesday in Somerset. The federal healthcare overhaul calls on each state to create its own marketplace in which residents can compare and purchase insurance plans, or sign up for Medicaid.

Kentucky recently became the 16th state to commit to setting up an exchange.

Under the exchange, those who earn up to 400% of the federal poverty level will be able to buy private health insurance, and most will have their premiums partly paid for through federal subsidies.

To inform the public about the exchanges, the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services is holding a series of forums throughout the state.

The next forum is Wednesday afternoon at Somerset Community College from 1 to 3:30pm.

Governor Beshear has promised Kentucky's insurance exchange will be ready by the January 1, 2014 deadline.
