The WKU football team is no doubt still smarting from not receiving a bowl bid.
Maybe some postseason awards will ease the pain a bit.
Senior running back Antonio Andrews was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year Wednesday, while senior linebacker Xavius Boyd won the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Andrews rushed for a school-record 1,730 yards this season, and led the nation in all-purpose yards for the second straight campaign. The Ft. Campbell High School graduate scored on a conference-leading 16 rushing touchdowns.
This marks the third time in four seasons that a Hilltopper has been named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year. WKU running back Bobby Rainey took home the honors for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
Defensive Player of the Year Boyd led the Sun Belt in tackles for loss and sacks, and was credited with 103 tackles on the season.
The Hilltoppers finished third in the Sun Belt Conference with an 8-4 record in Bobby Petrino’s first season as WKU coach.
Three other Hilltoppers received All-Conference First Team selections: defensive end Bar'ee Boyd; defensive back Jonathan Dowling; and defensive back Cam Thomas.
