A series of storms that moved through the region Thursday night caused several fires, including one that killed two people in Louisville. WLKY-TV reported the fire broke out in the middle of thunderstorms last night. Neighbors told arriving firefighters two people were still inside the home.
Rescuers described the victims as an older man who died at the scene, and a young woman who was taken to a hospital, but later died there from her injuries.
Fire inspectors will review the blaze, but it appeared it was started by a lightning strike.
Lighting is also believed to have started a fire that damaged a church in Nashville, TN. Wind blew part of the roof off a plant in Portland, near the Kentucky border.
Throughout the listening area of WKU Public Radio, people woke up Friday to downed trees, branches, and--in some parts of the region--downed power lines.
