Leader of Ft. Knox Combat Team Leaving Post for Ft. Campbell

The leader of an infantry brigade combat team stationed at Fort Knox is relinquishing command of the brigade at a ceremony tomorrow morning. But he’s not going far.

In fact, Col. Chris Toner is going from one Kentucky military installation to another.

The Kansas native has led the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division for the past three years. He was responsible for helping move the Brigade from Fort Hood, Texas to Fort Knox after the Brigade’s first deployment to Afghanistan.

Col. Toner is leaving Fort Knox to become the Chief of Staff for the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell.

He hands over command of the Duke Brigade to Colonel William Ostlund at a ceremony Thursday morning at Fort Knox’s Brooks Field.

The 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division Combat Team consists of more than 3,500 soldiers, and returned in January from a year-long deployment to eastern Afghanistan.
