Somerset Community College is offering a free class to certain prospective students in an effort to get their higher education plans back on track.
The idea comes as many Kentuckians have put parts of their lives on hold during the pandemic and the resulting economic challenges.
The offer from Somerset Community Collegeis for a free class of up to three credit hours in a long listof subjects ranging from art to nursing to truck driving.
The offer applies to students attending college for the first time, 2021 graduating seniors and returning students who have not attended Somerset Community College in the last five years.
The college is hoping the offer will encourage those have lost their jobs due to the economic downturn or the pandemic to take advantage of the opportunity to begin training for a new career.
The offer applies to in-person, hybrid and online courses. Students have a choice of four, six, eight or 12-week summer sessions, with the first ones beginning May 17.
