Former Miss America Heather French Henry says her experience working with veterans would translate well to the Secretary of State’s office. The Democratic nominee spoke to the Bowling Green Noon Rotary Club on Wednesday.
As former Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs, French-Henry says she worked with the Secretary of State’s Office to create polling locations in veterans’ nursing homes and to eliminate filing fees for new veteran-owned businesses, among other things. She says leading the department gave her administrative, fiscal, and legislative experience.
“So having led an extremely large department of state government, just those three fundamental factors of administration, legislative, and budget, I certainly have a wealth of experience and knowledge of doing that.”
Part of French-Henry’s platform includes restoring voting rights to non-violent felons and creating an early voting period starting two Saturdays before election day. French-Henry faces Michael Adams in the November election. Adams is a Republican activist and attorney in Louisville.
The winner will succeed Alison Lundergan Grimes who can’t run again because of term limits.
