The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 created Opportunity Zones in an effort to encourage investment in economically distressed areas.
Akisha Townsend Eaton, a nonprofit attorney in Bowling Green, is helping to organize a workshop Saturday, Aug. 24, about Opportunity Zones.
“They are there to basically drive capital into economically distressed communities that might have otherwise been overlooked,” she said.
Eaton said the point of the event is to discuss the benefits and concerns of Opportunity Zones.
“It could mean more options for affordable housing. It could mean better access to jobs and groceries and transportation,” she said.
Eaton said the point of these new incentive programs is to spur economic growth for the residents and businesses in the designated zones.
The event is at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bowling Green on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
