There’s been another big step in the plan to bring a huge natural gas manufacturing plant to Somerset.
The Commonwealth Journal reportspreliminary documents have been signed to provide natural gas to the proposed $70 million facility and to build the plant on 23 acres near the former Crane Company building.
The proposed project would convert natural gas into other products.
Somerset is in competition with an Ohio city for the project but is thought to have an advantage because of the city’s huge supply of natural gas from eastern Kentucky. Somerset has also built an energy center that controls the flow of natural gas in their existing pipeline network.
Somerset mayor Eddie Girdler would only tell the paper there would be “significant” employment should the Houston based project come to Pulaski County. The mayor said negotiations, including tax incentives, would move to the state level soon.
