The Republican majority in the Kentucky General Assembly is pushing back on new proposals concerning gender-affirming care for state inmates. The state Department of Corrections has proposed new rules to improve accommodations for transgender prisoners, which could include gender reassignment surgeries.

The Supreme Court on Monday jumped into the fight over transgender rights, agreeing to hear an appeal from the Biden administration seeking to block state bans on gender-affirming care.

Tennessee and Kentucky can continue to ban gender-affirming care for young transgender people while legal challenges against those state laws proceed, federal appeals judges ruled.

Kentucky's ban on gender-affirming care for young transgender people was restored Friday when a federal judge lifted an injunction he issued last month that had temporarily blocked the restrictions.

The new practice, that’s a part of the Graves Gilbert Clinic, offers gender affirming care, HIV prevention including PrEP prescriptions, and LGBTQ mental health treatments. It also offers traditional primary care for LGBTQ patients who’ve experienced discrimination from other healthcare providers.
