Fort Knox Soldier Dies in Attack in Afghanistan

The Army says a Fort Knox soldier on his fifth deployment has died from injuries suffered during an attack in Afghanistan.

Fort Knox officials say Sgt. 1st Class William K. Lacey died Saturday after his unit was attacked by rocket-propelled grenades in the Nangarhar Province in Afghanistan.

The 38-year-old Lacey, from Laurel, Fla., was a wheeled vehicle mechanic assigned to Company F, 201st Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.

He began his military service in 2003 and arrived at Fort Knox in January 2013.

Fort Knox says Lacey was in his fifth deployment, having served three tours in Iraq and two in Afghanistan.

Fort Knox says remembrance ceremonies will be held at the Army post in Kentucky and in Afghanistan in Lacey's honor.
