Sunday Liquor Sales Approved in Bowling Green

The Bowling Green City Commission approved the second and final reading of an ordinance clearing the way for the sale of package liquor on Sundays and on Election Day. The 3-2 vote Tuesday night was the same margin for the law's first reading last month.

Mayor Bruce Wilkerson and Commissioner Rick Williams opposed the measure which goes into effect Friday.

Package liquor stores can be open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. beginning this Sunday while malt beverage package sales can take place from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. The ordinance does not require stores to be open for business on Sundays, it only allows then to be. Premises that already have a special Sunday retail drink license can sell alcoholic beverages beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday.
