Officials from the G.M. Foundation in Detroit were at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant Wednesday to hand out $75,000 in grants to eleven local non-profit agencies. Plant Manager Dave Tatman also announced plant tours will start up again in a couple of weeks after being canceled for nearly a year.

The groups that will share in the grant money include:

*  Barren River Area Safe Space, Inc. (BRASS) for emergency assistance, resources and programs for regional domestic violence and homeless shelter residents.

* Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce and The Leader In Me to support that schoolwide model that increases teacher effectiveness, student engagement and academic achievement while preparing students to be future leaders.

* Boys & Girls Club of Bowling Green to support math and reading programs to help insure all Club members are on track to graduate from high school and are ready for college, trade school, the military or employment.

* The Center for Courageous Kids to help support the Summer Camp program for children battling serious illnesses.

* The Center for Environmental Education & Sustainability at WKU to be used to support GREEN, a partnership to encourage youth to be active community citizens, tackling water quality issues with hands-on science.

* The Friends of Lost River, Inc. to provide equipment and life vests for Lost River Cave's youth kayak program, which is designed to get kids outdoors, encourage exercise and educate them on the local environment.

* Orchestra Kentucky to help expand the "Arts Access for All (AAA)" program to provide admission to concerts for those less fortunate.

* Public Theatre of Kentucky to help produce teen theater productions.

* The Symphony at WKU to help support string instrument music lessons and scholarship assistance for warren County students.

* United Way of Southern Kentucky to support programs that address critical issues in the areas of poverty, literacy, personal abuse, substance abuse, youth development, senior services and physical and developmental disabilities.

* Operation UNITE (Unlawful Narcotics Investigations Treatment and Education) to support Camp UNITE, a youth program designed to develop leadership and communications skills, promote teamwork and empowerment.

Plant Manager Dave Tatman also announced tours of the plant will resume October 14th after being canceled for nearly a year while the new C7 Corvette Stingray was ramping up production. Nearly 50,000 visitors toured the plant last year. Tatman says the $131-million upgrade is complete and cars have been going to dealers since September 18th. The plant now has nearly 1,000 employees
