Wife of Slain Bardstown Police Officer to Speak Publicly

The widow of an ambushed Bardstown Police officer is making her first public comments since her husband was gunned down Saturday.

Amy Ellis is expected to address the media Tuesday morning at law enforcement offices. Kentucky State Police say 33-year-old officer Jason Ellis was shot multiple times after he got out of his cruiser to pick up debris on Bluegrass Parkway in Nelson County.

Ellis' death has triggered an outpouring of grief in the town of about 12,000 about 40 miles southeast of Louisville.

More than 300 people attended a candlelight vigil Monday night outside the police station.

A stream of mourners has covered a police car with flowers, flags, balloons and baseballs on a police cruiser that's become a makeshift memorial in front of the police station.
