WKU's Foster To Head National Climatology Association

Kentucky state climatologist Stuart Foster who directs the Kentucky Climate Center and the Kentucky Mesonet at WKU has been named the new president of the American Association of State Climatologists.

Dr. Foster began his two-tear term at the end of the group's annual meeting earlier this month in Destin, Florida. Foster said the experience he's had as state climatologist and in helping build the Kentucky Mesonet system helped him to prepare for the position.

His position as president also, he says, reflects on the "ongoing evolution and prominence of WKU in the area of meteorology and climatology."

The Kentucky Climate Center was established in 1978 and is one of the oldest climate offices in the country. The AASC promotes cooperation among state climatologists, the National Climate Data Center, the regional climate centers and other federal, state and private agencies on matters related to climate.
