The Owensboro City Commission is scheduled to vote on an ordinance that would ban the use of skateboards in the city’s downtown. The Messenger-Inquirer reports the commission is meeting tonight at 5pm at City Hall. The ordinance is expected to pass based on previous discussions by commissioners.
Mayor Ron Payne put forth the ordinance after he became upset at skateboard damage done to recently renovated parts of Owensboro’s riverfront area.
The proposed ordinance would ban downtown use of skateboards, inline skates, and BMX bikes.
Mayor Payne has also proposed creating a concrete skate and bike park, and wants commissioners to move on that proposal within three months.
