House Committee Approves Budget

By AP/ Kentucky Public Radio

Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky House Appropriations and Revenue Committee Friday evening approved a revised version of the state budget offered in January by Governor Fletcher.
The two year spending plan provides pay raises for teachers and state employees and almost a half-billion dollars in bonded capital projects for public universities.
The budget, which also includes $75 million for a sports arena at a downtown Louisville site not along the riverfront, won unanimous committee approval.
Chairman Harry Moberly says the $18 billion spending plan will get a House floor vote either Tuesday or Wednesday.
Part of House's proposed budget includes a new judicial center and family court judgeship for Hopkins County.
But observers say it's uncertain whether they'll survive Senate scrutiny.
The budget also includes $300,000 in funding for planning and design of a Murray State University post-secondary education center on Madisonville Community College's campus.
