National Corvette Museum Welcomes Next Leader

Lisa Autry

A career educator is now in the driver’s seat at the National Corvette Museum.  The Bowling Green attraction introduced its next president and CEO in a news conference on Thursday afternoon.

Dr. Sean Preston comes to Bowling Green from Portland, Oregon where he led a non-profit independent school.  He has held other educational posts in North Carolina, Louisiana, and China.

Preston said the educational nature of the museum is what attracted him to the position.

“There’s so much to learn about these cars; STEM technology, STEAM technology, engineering, mathematics," he stated. "There’s a lot that goes into building and designing a car and many people don’t know much about that. What I want to do here is make sure that becomes on the forefront of our exhibits.”

Preston said he looks forward to creating new exhibits, including space for the C8, the next generation Corvette that will be unveiled next month.

Preston said he also wants to focus on preserving the existing collection, expanding the membership base, and boosting the number of visitors to the museum.

Preston replaces Wendell Strode who has led the non-profit since 1996.  Strode announced his retirement in May 2018.

The National Corvette Museum will celebrate its 25th anniversary in August.
