Kentucky Special Session to Start Monday

Governor Beshear will call a special session of the Kentucky legislature Monday to allow lawmakers to consider a transportation budget that would provide funding needed for a $4.5 billion highway construction plan. He'll also ask legislators to pass a bill aimed at curbing prescription drug abuse.

Kentucky lawmakers adjourned this year's legislative session late Thursday night without approving funding for the road construction plan.

Beshear, a Democrat, blamed Republican senate president David Williams for thwarting passage of the appropriations bill. Williams has insisted that Beshear should sign the construction plan into law before the senate would pass the funding measure.

The Governor said he didn't have time to fully review the construction plan before the session ended. It had received final passage late Thursday evening.
