As the COVID-19 pandemic drags on, this year’s Veteran’s Day offerings by Henderson County Schools will be within necessary health and safety protocols.
That includes the district’s continuing mask mandate and virtual presentations on social media like Facebook and YouTube.
School district spokesperson Megan Mortis said each school created its own program to recognize the service of military veterans.
“We have different vocal performances. Some students are doing choir performances,” she said.
The high school will recognize those who have served our country with a special program produced by journalism students.
Mortis said the stories of veterans will be explored during a program that includes the name of the district mascot, the Colonels.
“They do a weekly newscast and so they’re making their Colonel Cast News as a Veteran’s Day theme for their weekly message this week,” Mortis said.
South Middle School will have an in-house ceremony. They’ll be doing a program for the students and for the staff and the school band will perform. Due to COVID safety protocols, members of the public will not be invited this year, as they have in past years.
Mortis said South Middle School is known for its Veteran’s Day program, a tradition the school has continued for more than 40 years.
