Tourism Spending Up in Ten County Area

The ten-county Caves, Lakes and Corvettes Region saw an increase of 3.7% in direct tourism expenditures in 2011 equaling nearly $340 million. The increase added an overall amount of nearly $534 million in total expenditures to the region's economy.

All ten counties saw an increase with Warren County leading the way at 3.5%, followed by Barren County at 3.2%.

Warren County's increase in tourism dollars brought total expenditures to $336 million, up from $325 million in 2010.

The Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet says tourism spending in the state increased by 3% last year to nearly $11.7 billion.

Warren County again ranks fifth out of Kentucky's 120 counties in total tourism expenditures for the year.

Jefferson County led with $2.76 billion in total impact, followed by Fayette County with $1.77 billion.
