The gunmen then commandeered two armored vehicles and tried to storm through a checkpoint into the Gaza Strip. One vehicle exploded, and the Israeli military destroyed the other.
  • Florida wildlife officials are pressing charges against a man for feeding an alligator in the Everglades. The News-Press in Fort Myers, Fla., says the man was giving an Indiana family a tour when he dangled a fish off the boat. An alligator snapped up the fish — and the man's hand.

  • Syrian rebels say Prime Minister Riad Hijab fled to neighboring Jordan just two months after he was appointed to the post. The rebels say three other ministers also defected.
  • Gunshots tore through a Sunday prayer service at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis., a suburb just south of Milwaukee. Seven people have been confirmed dead including the gunman. For more on the shooting, Steve Inskeep talks to Don Walker, a reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
