Ft. Knox Soldiers Honoring President Taylor in Louisville

Zachary Taylor National Cemetery

Soldiers from Fort Knox are honoring President Zachary Taylor this week.

A wreath-laying ceremony is being held at the Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The White House provides a wreath every year at the gravesite of each deceased former U.S. president to honor their birthdays.

Born in Virginia in 1784, Taylor grew up in Louisville. In 1808, he began a decades-long military career which resulted in his election as president in 1848.

He was sworn into office the next year and served as President for 16 months before his death in 1850.

The general public is welcome to attend Wednesday’s event in Jefferson County.
