General Assembly Opens Tuesday

By AP

Frankfort, KY – Lawmakers have more to think about than the state budget when they resume work Tuesday.
Governor Fletcher still wants a tax law overhaul and they'll consider that as well. Some key legislators say the climate for consideration of such an overhaul should be accomodating.
They say with no elections scheduled, there's less chance of political punishment for a legislator who casts an unpopular vote.
Some lawmakers, meanwhile, are calling for more government oversight after finding out that many suburban Louisville fire districts aren't filing required public records.
Representative Jim Wayne of Louisville says the state law needs to be strengthened to have oversiht over those organizations.
The Louisville democrat commented after the Courier-Journal reported several of Jefferson County's 19 suburban departments have not filed records required by state law to be public.
