Land Between the Lakes Suffers Storm Closures

U.S. Forest Service

Portions of Land Between the Lakes in Western Kentucky are closed following severe storms over the weekend.  Christopher Joyner with the U.S. Forest Service says downed trees and power lines are creating a hazardous situation at the park.

“The high winds mainly caused us to lose a lot of trees across power lines and across roadways all throughout Land Between the Lakes, and so we’re having to close a lot of areas.  Lots of areas we don’t have power and maybe not have power for a few more days.  Our power company is helping us as much as they possibly can, but we have a lot of trees down across a lot of power lines.”

Joyner said Taylors Bay and Energy Campgrounds are closed indefinitely as a result of the storm damage and asks visitors to the park to respect the barricaded road blocks. The U.S. Forest Service will update conditions at its website

Land between the Lakes National Recreation Area spans 160,000 acres in Kentucky and Tennessee and is run by the U.S. Forest Service.
