Here Are The Results From The 2018 Kentucky Primary Election

2nd District U.S. House Race

Kentucky Democrats have chosen a former self-employed musician who lives in Grayson County to face Republican U.S. Congressman Brett Guthrie in the November general election.

Hank Linderman took 30 percent of the vote in a four-way Democratic primary.

He won by about 700 votes over the second-place primary finisher, Brian Pedigo of Glasgow.

Guthrie didn’t face a GOP primary challenge.

8th District Kentucky Senate, and 14th District Kentucky House Races

A state Representative from Daviess County has won his party’s primary to fill a vacant state Senate seat.

Republican Matt Castlen easily won yesterday’s Republican primary in the 8th District Senate race, which covers Daviess, Hancock, and McLean counties.

That seat has been held since 2011 by the retiring Republican Senator Joe Bowen.

Castlen will face Democrat and Owensboro City Commissioner Bon Glenn in the November general election.

Castlen’s run for the state Senate means his House seat is up for grabs.

Ohio County Schools Superintendent Scott Lewis won yesterday’s Republican primary for the 14th District House seat. That seat covers Ohio County and part of Daviess County.

Lewis will face Democrat Elizabeth Belcher in the general election.

25th District Kentucky House Race

A retired teacher in Hardin County has won the Democratic nomination to take on Republicanincumbent Representative Jim DuPlessis in the fall general election.

Tom Williamson said he decided to run for the 25th state House seat after the General Assembly passed a right to work law and legalized charter schools in Kentucky.

Williamson won by less than 500 votes over his primary opponent, Matt Wyatt, a member of the Elizabethtown Independent School Board.

Duplessis has held the House seat that represents a portion of Hardin County since 2015, and didn’t face a primary challenge.

20th Kentucky House District Race

Democratic Republican Jody Richards has held the seat for 40 years and is retiring. 

WKU history professor and civil rights activist Patti Minter has won the Democratic nomination. She will face off against 28-year-old Republican Ben Lawson.  

19th District House Race

Republican incumbent Michael Meredith has won the GOP nomination against challenger WKU professor Brian Strow. 

William "Bill" Fishback has won the Democratic nomination i against challengers Dan Johnson and Jacob Moore. 

17th District House Race

Republican Representative Jim DeCesare has held the seat since 2005 and is not seeking re-election. 

Steve Sheldon won the Republican primary and will face Democrat Malcolm Cherry. 

32nd District Senate Race

Republican incumbent and Senate Majority Whip Mike Wilson has won the GOP nomination and will face Democrat Jeanie Smith, a Warren County teacher. 

8th District Senate Race

Republican Senator Joe Bowen is retiring and has held the seat since 2011.

State Representative Matt Castlen has won the GOP nomination and will face Democrat Bob Glenn in November. Glenn is an Owensboro City Commissioner and Mayor Pro Tem. 

14th District House Race 

Matt Castlen currently holds the seat, but has given it up to run for Senator Joe Bowen's seat. 

Republican Scott Lewis, Ohio County Schools Superintendent has won the Republican nomination. He will face Democrat Elizabeth Belcher in November. 

25th Kentucky House District Race 

Democratic Nominee Tom Williamson will face Republican incumbent Jim Duplessi in the general election. 

50th Kentucky House District Race

Democratic nominee James DeWeese will face Republican incumbent Chad McCoy.  

1st Congressional District Race

Murray State English professor Paul Walker will face Republican incumbent James Comer in November. 

5th Congressional District Race

Hal Rogers has won the Republican nomination in Kentucky's 5th Congressional District to seek record 20th term in Congress. Gerardo Serrano was the Republican challenger.

Lawyer and U.S. Navy veteran Kenneth Stepp has won the Democratic nomination defeating challenger former Elkhorn City councilman Scott Sykes.

71st Kentucky House District Race

Kentucky House Majority leader Jonathan Shell has lost to Republican challenger Travis Brenda. 

Mary Renfro ran unopposed in the Democratic Primary.

3rd Congressional District Race

Democratic Incumbent John Yarmuth ran unopposed and has held the seat since he was elected in 2006. 

Former Kentucky Secretary of Health and Human Services Vickie Yates Glisson has won the GOP primary. She defeated Republican candidates Mike Craven and Rhonda Palazzo. 

6th District Congressional Race

Congressman Andy Barr wins GOP primary. He faced Republican challenger Chuck Eddy.

Ex-military fighter pilot Amy McGrath has won the Democratic primary. Her challengers were Lexington Mayor Jim Gray, Theodore Green, Daniel Kemph, Reggie Thomas and Geoff Young.

81st Kentucky House District Race

The first incumbent in Kentucky’s legislature has been defeated. Republican Wesley Morgan lost to primary challenger Deanna Frazier. The 81st district covers part of Madison County.

Rowan County Clerk Race

A gay man in eastern Kentucky has lost his bid to challenge a Republican county clerk who went to jail three years ago for denying him and others marriage licenses.

David Ermold was seeking the Democratic nomination for county clerk in Rowan County, Kentucky. He had hoped to challenge religious conservative Kim Davis.

In 2015 Davis said that "God's authority" prevented her from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples in the aftermath of an historic U.S. Supreme Court decision.

Ermold lost to Elwood Caudill in a four-way Democratic primary on Tuesday, despite a campaign that raised more than $200,000 with donations from at least 48 states.

Caudill will face Davis in the November general election. No one challenged Davis for the Republican nomination.
