McConnell to Speak at Tea Party Rally for First Time, Paul Will Also Attend

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is addressing a tea party group in a few weeks in Frankfort in what activists say is a first. Tea party activist David Adams told the Lexington Herald-Leader that McConnell hasn't spoken to a tea party group before and he thinks it shows the party's growing strength.

Louisville Tea Party President Sarah Durand said McConnell, R-Ky., once held a question & answer session with her party but she didn't recall his speaking at any tea party rally in Kentucky before.

McConnell spokesman Robert Steurer confirmed that McConnell will speak at the Aug. 21 rally at the state Capitol. Moira Bagley, a spokeswoman for Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., confirmed that he will also be there.

The two are expected to criticize the Affordable Health Care Act.
