Warren County Residents Can Drop Off Recycling

Southern Recycling

Warren County residents can drop off recyclables for the next few weeks even though curbside pickup has stopped.

It’s only a temporary way to recycle paper, plastic, cardboard, glass, aluminum cans and tin cans for Warren County residents.

But for those who have had their recycling habits in limbo since curbside pickup stopped on March 31, Southern Recycling is accepting those materials at its Warren County location on Graham Drive.

To make it easy to find, the company has put up green signs at the intersection of Louisville Road and Plum Springs Road pointing people to the recycling site.

Customers will be responsible for sorting the materials and putting them in designated bins.

Southern Recycling closed to the public for two weeks during the first part of the COVID-19 pandemic to prepare safety precautions.

Self-service sorting stations are set up at Southern Recycling in Warren County so residents can bring recyclables, since curbside pickup has stopped.

For the self-service recycling, only one person will be allowed out of a vehicle at a time and all safety protocols are in place to keep employees and customers safe.

Drop off recycling will be available for Warren County residents, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until July 31.

Southern Recycling General Manager Keith McKelvey previously said the challenge of finding markets is the main reason the company decided not to seek to renew its contract  with the county.

China stopped importing plastics and other materials in 2018.

Warren County Environmental Planning Coordinator Stan Reagan previously said the county will request proposals for another company to handle recycling. But with the collapse of the international recycling market and rising costs, Reagan said it's likely to be difficult to find a company that will provide good service at an affordable cost for the county.
