Western Kentucky University Student Joins Global Effort, Organizes Local Climate Strike

Becca Schimmel

A Western Kentucky University student is organizing a local event to coincide with the Global Climate Strikes

Jessica Williams is the main organizer and is designing her academic major around climate change. The WKU junior from Florence said the U.S. government needs to take climate change science seriously.

“We can’t wait another year, we can’t wait another month, we can’t wait another day. Something needs to happen now. And that’s why I am organizing the climate strike.”

Williams said she wants to bring people together who have the same ideas, but also hopes those who deny the science behind climate change will attend the event.

“I want to figure out a way to reach those people also and I think there is hope for helping them realize climate change is happening.”

The Global Climate Strike is Thursday Sep. 26th, at 11:30 a.m. central time at the Centennial Mall on WKU’s Bowling Green campus. The effort is part of a global movement beginning last week that includes more than 150 countries.
