WKU Hilltoppers Are Again Headed to NCAA Big Dance After Winning Sun Belt Championship

WKU Athletic Meda Relations

It wouldn't be a postseason without the WKU Hilltoppers winning four games in four days.

WKU pulled off the feat for the second straight season, beating Florida International Monday night 65-63 for the Sun Belt Conference Championship.

With the win, the Hilltoppers will make their second straight appearance in the NCAA tournament.

Sophomore forward and Bowling Green native George Fant led the Toppers with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Senior guard Jamal Crook also scored 17, including some clutch late-game free throws that helped seal the deal for WKU.

It's a sweet moment for WKU, a team that endured multiple player transfers before the season began, numerous injuries throughout the regular season, and the loss of their tallest player last month due to academic issues.

With an NCAA bid guaranteed, WKU players, coaches, and fans can celebrate and await "Selection Sunday"--the day when the NCAA tournament brackets will be unveilved.

The Hilltoppers will learn their fate this Sunday at 5:00 p.m. CT when the brackets for the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championships are released during the Selection Show broadcast on CBS.

It will mark the 23rd appearance in the NCAA Tournament for WKU, including the fourth in the last six years. WKU has four wins in the tournament in its last three appearances with at least one win in each of the last three appearances.
