Motorists traveling on Interstate 64 in Louisville will soon encounter another traffic change as construction continues on the I-64/I-65 interchange. The exit ramps from eastbound and westbound I-64 to southbound I-65 are scheduled for closure this weekend.
Work on these ramps is part of a construction contract for repairs to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge and four ramp bridges in the I-65/I-64 interchange, locally known as “Spaghetti Junction”.
The exit ramps (shown in green on the attached map) from eastbound and westbound I-64 to southbound I-65 (Exit 5A) are scheduled for closure beginning at 8 p.m. EDT, Saturday, July 14. Motorists should follow the signed detours via I-264 (Watterson Expressway) to I-65.
The construction contractor has until the end of July to complete repairs on these ramps.
The following ramps (shown in yellow) continue to be closed and will remain closed for the duration of the project:
· The exit ramp from eastbound I-64 to northbound I-65 in Kentucky
· The exit ramp from southbound I-65 to Market Street in Indiana
· The entrance ramp from Court Avenue to southbound I-65 in Indiana
The ramps from westbound I-64 and southbound I-71 to northbound I-65 and the northbound I-65 exit ramp to Jeffersonville (Exit 0) are also currently closed. These ramps (shown in red) will remain closed through mid-July.
Vehicles wider than 9 feet are restricted from traveling through the work zone.
The construction is being done by MAC Construction and Excavating, of New Albany, Ind. at a cost of $18.2 million. All work is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 15, 2012. The schedule and duration of work are subject to change in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays.
