With the primary election just a few days away, Daviess County is short 20 poll workers.
The shortage of poll workers is a statewide issue, but Daviess County is keeping up the effort to get enough new workers trained before the Tuesday, May 21 primary.
Daviess County Clerk Leslie McCarty said those who would like to work in the nonpartisan position at the polls can show up this Saturday morning, fill out the necessary paperwork and take the training.
“Saturday we will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 noon for absentee ballot voting, and then at 9 a.m. we are going to have a training for new poll workers. It will be in the basement of the courthouse," said McCarty. "So if they come to the courthouse on Saturday morning and they would like to be a poll worker, we’ll be glad to help them achieve that dream and goal.”
She said those who work at the polls should be good at paying attention to detail and be able to work the long primary election day.
Poll workers are paid for the training class and the workday on Tuesday, May 21 that begins at 5:15 a.m. and wraps up at 6 p.m. when the polls close.
