The group that oversees higher education in Kentucky has announced three finalists to become its next president.
The Council on Postsecondary Education is looking for a successor to Dr. Bob King who retired. King has been tapped by President Donald Trump to join the U.S. Department of Education as the Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education. King must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate and his nomination is still pending, according to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's office.
One of the finalists is Dr. Robert Donley who is chief executive officer for the Board of Regents at State University System of Iowa.
Dr. Emily Anne House is also being considered for CPE president. She is currently chief policy and strategy officer for the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.
The third finalist is Dr. Aaron Thompson who already works for the CPE as executive vice president and chief academic officer.
The CPE is expected to meet on October 25 to interview the finalists and could make a hiring decision following the meeting.
