Power Outages are Reported Across Kentucky

By Dan Modlin and Joe Corcoran

Bowling Green, KY – Andrew Melnykovych of the Kentucky Public Service Commission says outages have been reported from one end of Kentucky to the other. However, he says the total number of people without power statewide is lower than in several other storm events that have occurred in recent years. High winds toppled many trees and falling branches have contributed to power outages in several areas.

Officials with Bowling Green Municipal Utilities say six to eight poles were snapped by the storm, and more than four thousand people in the Bowling Green area were temporarily without electricity.

The Public Service Commission is urging anyone seeing a downed power line to call their local utility company. Melnykovych says such lines can be deadly, and should be avoided by those who aren't trained to repair them.
