Fort Knox, KY – An Indiana National Guardsman who killed an Iraqi police officer, then shot himself in the stomach, has entered a plea of guilty to the lesser charge of negigent homicide.
Corporal Dustin Berg of Ferdinand, Indiana was charged with murder and giving false statements. Military authorities say the self-inflicted wound was to give the impression of a firefight and prevent an investigation.
The 22 year old Berg has previously testified that the shooting was in self-defense. Berg said in prior court hearings that the Iraqi officer pointed a gun at him toi stop him from reporting possible insurgent activity.
