House Speaker Retains Leadership Position

Frankfort, KY – The Speaker of the Kentucky House has withstood
a challenge to his leadership role, and will remain
House Speaker. Representative Jody Richards of
Bowling Green had expressed confidence that he
could overcome a challenge by fellow Democrat
Rob Wilkey of Simpson County.

Richards told Western's Public Radio late last week
that he had spoken with every member of the
House about the challenge, and was "quite
confident" that the challenge would fall short.

However, Representative Wilkey told Western's
Public Radio that he was "in the hunt." Wilkey also
pointed out that the leadership vote is conducted
by secret ballot, and he thought Speaker Richards
might get fewer votes than he had been promised.
