Chandler to Enter Congressional Race

By AP/Dan Modlin

Versailles, KY – Democrat Ben Chandler has confirmed that he is
a candidate for the Sixth District Congressional
seat vacated by Governor Ernie Fletcher. Chandler
lost to Fletcher in the November 4th gubernatorial
election, but says his name recognition will never
be higher than at the present time.

Speaking with reporters, Chandler said he could
not pass up "a golden opportunity" to become a
member of the U-S House. The Kentucky Attorney
General is the grandson of A.B. "Happy" Chandler
who served as Governor, U-S Senator, and
Commissioner of Baseball.

Governor Fletcher must call a special election to
fill his vacated seat in Congress. Several Republicans,
including Alice Forgy Kerr, have expressed an interest
in running. Democrat State Auditor Ed Hatchett says he
is also interested in the nomination.
