Former Kentucky Governor Ned Breathitt Dead

Lexington, KY – A University of Kentucky Hospital Spokesperson
says Breathitt died shortly before midnight, last
night. The former Kentucky governor had been in
a coma since Friday, when he collapsed during
a dinner speech at the University of Kentucky.

Breathitt was a liberal Democrat who supported
the first civil rights law in the South. He is also
credited with supporting campaign finance
legislation and strip-mining regulations.
Ned Breathitt served three terms in the state
legislature before becoming Governor in 1963.
