A new survey of Indiana voters shows Republican Richard Mourdock and Democrat Joe Donnelly remain locked in a tight race for U.S. Senate. Just over a month before of the election, the poll puts the race a statistical dead heat. The Howey\Depauw Indiana Battleground Poll gives Democratic Congressman Joe Donnelly a two-point lead over Republican State Treasurer Richard Mourdock. Forty-percent of respondents favored Donnelly and 38% Mourdock, well within the poll’s margin of error.
In the races for president and governor, the same survey is more favorable toward Republicans. GOP Congressman Mike Pence enjoys a double-digit lead over Democrat John Gregg in the contest for Indiana governor.
Meanwhile, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has a comfortable lead over President Obama in the Hoosier state at 52% to 40%. The survey of 800 likely voters was taken last week and has a 3.5% percent margin of error.
