Vienna Boys Choir, Made Up of Young Musicians From All Over the World, Coming to SKyPAC

Lukas Beck

One of the most famous vocal performance groups in the world is coming to Warren County.

The Vienna Boys Choiris performing Tuesday night at the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center in Bowling Green. It’s one of the 32 southern and midwestern towns the group is visiting during its 2019 North American tour.

The group consists of singers from more than 30 countries.

Choirmaster Jimmy Chiang said it’s his job to create one unified sound out of all the cultural and ethnic diversity found within the group.

“There’s Hungarians, there’s Austrians, there’s Americans…some are from the Middle East, and some are Asian. And they all have different—let’s say—‘imaginations’ about the sounds of each vowel. And that’s the biggest challenge,” Chiang said.

The Vienna Boys Choir features 100 boys between the ages of ten and 14, who are divided into four touring groups.

Chiang believes a performance of beautiful music can be very therapeutic for both the audience, and the choir.

“When we actually have this one piece of music in front of us, then it doesn’t matter how different we are, because we could sing in harmony.”

Tuesday’s performance at SKyPAC in Bowling Green begins at 7:30 pm.

The group performed Saturday in Evansville.
