Video: Coal Miners Again in Spotlight in Kentucky Congressional Race

Coal miners are continuing to be the subjects of TV political ads in a Lexington-based congressional district that has no mines. Republican challenger Andy Barr went up Wednesday with another such ad in which miners, their faces covered in coal dust, criticize 6th District Democratic U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler.

Miners have been the subject of at least five TV spots in recent weeks. Barr is running three of them to attack Chandler. Chandler responded with one of his own. And an outside group is running another attacking Chandler.

Coal issues have played big in the matchup even though most of the state's mines are miles away in the more mountainous Appalachian region.

Lexington has a sizeable bloc of Appalachian transplants as well as offices for several major mining companies.

You can see Barr's latest ad about coal miners, entitled "Low Life", here.

And one of Ben Chandler's ads featuring support from military veterans can be seen here.
