US Army Human Resources Command Welcomes First Female Command Sergeant Major

Master Sgt. Brian Hamilton

A woman is serving as the Command Sergeant Major of the Fort Knox-based U.S. Army Human Resources Command for the first time in the department’s 46 year history.

CSM Lynice D. Thorpe-Noel will advise the division's staff on issues related to enlisted personnel.

She said the position focuses on taking care of service members and their families, calling "people" the greatest asset.

"That's what we take care of here," Thorpe-Noel said. "From the services we provide on the installations and the programs that are out there to all the different programs and systems that we have to utitlize to support that effort to generate readiness."

CSM Thorpe-Noel’s military record includes tours in Europe, the continental U-S and Hawaii.

Her role requires her to advise HRC Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Jason Evans on talent management, programs and soldiers’ needs.

Thorpe-Noel said increasing education and fostering diversity are two of her priorities.

“I think the biggest thing is just treat each other with dignity and respect. And let that take care of itself," Thorpe-Noel said.

The “Human Resources Command” works with Senior Army leaders to develop and oversee branch-wide management programs and policies. It formed in 1973 and relocated to Fort Knox nine years ago.
