Somerset Man Accused of Shipping Drugs From Florida to Kentucky

A Pulaski County man is under arrest for trafficking in prescription drugs that he stole from out of state. Detectives say 31-year-old Shannon Helton of Somerset allegedly broke into a Florida pharmacy and stole drugs to mail back to Kentucky.  He was arrested in Somerset this week after detectives found a large amount of painkillers.

"The detectives seized 565 dose units of narcotics, Oxycontin and Hydromorphine," said Captain Bill Payton with the Kentucky State Police Drug Enforcement-Special Investigations Office in Bowling Green.

Payton said the pills had a street value of more than $11,000. While drug trafficking has become common between Kentucky and the Sunshine State, Payton says it's the first case he knows of that involved a burglary.  Charges are also pending against Helton in Florida.
