Shakeup at Horse Cave Police Department Leaves Bare Bones Staff

Horse Cave Police Department

The Horse Cave Police Department is operating with a skeleton crew following the termination of one officer and the suspension of two others.

Police Chief Sean Henry and Officer Christopher Trulock are suspended without pay as a federal investigation into the department continues.  City officials haven’t said why the police force is the subject of an FBI probe.  Search warrants were executed at the department earlier this month.

Officer Larry Dale Martin was recently fired, but his termination was not related to the FBI probe.  City Attorney Pat Ross says Martin is a defendant in another federal case which prohibits him from carrying a firearm.

"He continued to work for the Horse Cave Police Department doing things administratively that didn't involve carrying a firearm, but that wasn't a situation that could continue indefinitely," explained Ross.

Martin is scheduled to go on trial May 30 for selling equipment belonging to law enforcement for his personal benefit.  The charges of wire fraud stem from his time with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

Meanwhile, in Horse Cave, Officer David Graves is serving as acting police chief.  The department is down to only two cops and has been getting assistance from the Hart County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police.
