A former Hardin County Schools superintendent and chairwoman of the Western Kentucky University Board of Regents has passed away.

Lois Gray was 81. She died Tuesday in Florida.

She served as the superintendent of Hardin County Schools from 1992 to 2002.

Before that she was the principal at Fort Knox Community Schools.

After stepping down from her leadership post at Hardin County Schools, Gray served as chairwoman of the WKU Board of Regents from 2002 to 2004.

In a statement, current Hardin County Schools superintendent Teresa Morgan remembered Gray as a leader who was “deeply engaged with classroom activities” and led the district through initiatives like the Kentucky Education Reform Act and the construction of John Hardin High School.

Gray’s family plans to hold her funeral at Stithton Baptist Church in Radcliff. Arrangements are still being finalized.
